Counselors For Computing Atlantic

Did you know? Opportunities to study computer science across the nation and in our local schools are increasing, and this has implications for counseling practice. Attend the Counselors for Computing workshop and learn about the national Computer Science for All initiative and local efforts. During the workshop, you will try your hand at computing, learn about students’ great prospects for work in technical fields, meet technical professionals, and get tips for how to support all students as they computer science and explore computing careers.

2013 Maryland Summit for Computing Education

On Friday, May 17, 2013, CE21-Maryland hosted a Summit for Computing Education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) campus in Catonsville, Maryland. Among those in attendance were teachers, administrators, legislators, industry leaders, and others with an interest in expanding computer science in high school or middle school. This diverse range of backgrounds and experiences helped inform how the CE21 project could better aid teachers in introducing computer science to more Maryland high school students.

CE21 Maryland Mini-Summit

CE21 hosted a Computer Science Education Mini-Summit on August 8, 2012, at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), campus in Catonsville, Maryland. Over 50 teachers, administrators, and others who have an interest in expanding computer science in high school or middle school attended. We sought to bring together educators and administrators from a broad range of backgrounds, experiences, and interests to share information about computer science education and to provide advice about how the CE21 project can help teachers introduce computer science to more Maryland high school students and increase diversity.

UMBC Google CS4HS Teacher Development Workshop 2012

The UMBC CS4HS workshop was a three-day professional development opportunity attended by 19 Maryland high school computer science teachers, sponsored by Google. The workshop was held in Summer 2012, at UMBC’s campus in suburban Baltimore.

Workshop attendees had the opportunity to share ideas for energizing the teaching of computer science in Maryland high schools and to forge new relationships among each other and with university faculty members. A few key high school and state administrators also participated.
